This new year, pictures speak much more than words as Sanrokan News Mag brings you photos of the Biniray Festival in Romblon, Romblon. Our listers were also caught brainstorming issues on fiestas. CD-ROM man and editor, Mr. Chu Mangoba's Op-Ed's column says a lot about fiestas and devotion to saints.

GUINTUBSAN, a seacoast about two kilometers almost north of Odiongan town and just a few hundred meters south of the Odiongan Dock, is the place where Miguel Cirilo, a prominent man of the town during his time, was ransomed by the Odiongan people from the Moros during the days of Moro piracy. The brave, lame, Moro chieftain, Dejapar and his men were met here by Captain Zaqueo, the famous Looc chieftain and his warriors. Here, the four carabaos and a hundred cavans of rice were delivered to the Moros as ransom for the freedom of Miguel Cirilo. The seacoast is now called 'Guintubsan' meaning a place where someone was ransomed. - Mateo Meñez on his book Brief History of a Typical Philippine Town

Discover Romblon. Biniray Festival in the capital town coincides with the Ati-atihan of Kalibo, Dinagyang of Iloilo, and Sinulog of Cebu. However, this local festival has already inked its market as local and foreign tourists flocked in town every second week of January. (Click image for larger view.) Photo courtesy of Ms. Trina Q.
