BANTON 2003 CALENDAR
(Last Week of April to May 31, 2003)
by Lyndon Fadri

KUMUSTAHAN SA MAINIT

And just when you think it is all over, at Mainit, it is just starting to heat up. After all, here is where the sun last rises and sets. Patukar kita…

April 21 (Mon): Festivities start off with a Holy Mass. Inter-zonal games follow: Beach Volleyball, Boat Tag of War, Karang-karang, Boat Race, Basketball and many more! There will also be a barangay lunch on the same day. Cap the night watching the Welcome and Cultural Show.

April 22 (Tue): The games continue… but the climax of the festivities takes center stage. It is time for the Coronation Ball! Won't you like to dance?

April 23 (Wed): Family clans will spend time for their own reunions. Barangay folks will also pay tribute to Mother Nature with their Tree Planting activity.

MAY GAMES

We made sure you'll have the best summer of your life in Banton with these exciting tournaments:

April 26 - May 1 (Sat - Thu): Drive! Smash! Offense! Defense! It's a tourney of individuals with the fastest minds, the fastest hands and the fastest eyes - the first TABLE TENNIS OPEN - sponsored by the Fonte-Chua Clan, in support of the Banton 2003 project. Valuable prizes await the winners.
Join or just enjoy watching.

May 2 (Fri): Yagting kids show their swimming, diving, fish-catching and all-around skills in the Fonte-Chua sponsored Beach and other Parlor Games at Hipit, Tumalum.

May 4 - 10 (Sun - Sat): Boys, stay on the sidelines and watch them play. Girls, it is your turn to display your skills, your agility, your grace… and your body!
Stay for the Makopa Cup (Women Volleyball Open) sponsored by Purok Arlim and the Makopa tree tambays. Have more fun!

May 11 -18 (Sun - Sat): Boys, stay put. Just enjoy watching them play a more rugged and physical game in the Women Basketball Open! It has never been this fun!

And there's so much more! Banton 2003 Sports Committee is still planning more sports activities.

TURNOHAN

May 1 -31 (Thu - Sat): Flowers bloom and so does romance. Flowers conquer the air and so does music. Flowers capture the eyes and so do beautiful faces. Flowers are arranged and so are dates. Flowers are offered and so is love. It's May. You'd wish it would never end!

Surely, with the Turnohan by Barangay with each barangay trying to win the honor and the prize for the Best Turno, there will be lots of baylehan (dancing), kaunan (eating) and other gimmicks.

See little girls dressed in white with well-arranged floral offerings for Mama Mary. You bet the offerings will be much more beautiful this time. What with the Best Flower Offering of the Day Contest.

May 1 (Thu): Jump to a good start. Get into the rhythm. Get to dance with the candidates for Ms. Banton 2003 in the final canvassing and dance ball.

May 31 (Sat): We save the best for last! This will be the night of all nights. Experience the grandeur of the local sagala. Watch the Banton 2003 beauties in their elegance. For one last time, dance with the one you have been dancing with since the day the rains first dropped. Dance until the day breaks.

BARANGAY FIESTAS

So you think these are just another ordinary days. Think again!

May 1 (Sat): Barangay Togbongan Fiesta

May 27 -28 (Tue - Wed): … make the ultimate in Cultural Game competition happen: the final leg of the bugsayan, ap-atan (a quadrathlon - bugsay, rangoy, rayagan, karang-karang), bagoy and cocosports (sabyay sa liwag, tapas, kurkor, surilap)…
