TRIVIA CORNER
How Romblon Got Its Name: A Legend
When a Spanish expedition, Loarca touched sand in Romblon, one of the soldiers rambled along the
beach and feeling thirsty, decided to approach a house to ask for a drink. As he took the drink from a young woman, he noticed a hen laying eggs in a nest by the wall on the corner of the house. The Castilian soldier ventured to ask the chicken for free. As the woman could not understand, she presumed she was being asked what the hen was doing. She answered, "nagalomlom," meaning the chicken was brooding. Disappointed he could not get the chicken, the soldier left the house muttering "nagalomlom". When he returned to the ship and asked where he had been, the soldier answered "Nagalomlom."

When the expedition left, they named the island "Nagalomlom, meaning "where the chicken was brooding." It was then corrupted to "Domblon," and later on modified to ROMBLON.
