"Save Romblon Plaza" gets local support

A movement to save the Romblon Plaza from being roofed is snowballing among local residents and heritage conservationists in the capital town and the whole province as well. Calling the roof project a massive and imposing construction that will only suffocate the town and undermine an enduring landmark that has served many generations, the concerned Romblomanons also expressed regret that their fond memories of the coronations and pabailes in the open plaza will remain mere memories when the new structure has been put up.

Instead, the petitioners urged "the municipal proponents to allocate the money for environmental and cultural projects." They further added that, "the Plaza Park can only benefit from more trees and ornamental plants, clean and functional restrooms, appropriate landscaping and effective maintenance. The remaining funds can also be used to organize theater workshops for local stage plays, harnessing the skills and talents of our young and aspiring artists. It would not only utilize the Plaza for what it's meant for, but will also create a social venue where arts and culture may thrive, inspiring and enriching the minds and souls of our people."
