Romblon Educator is RP Top Teacher

The Philippines' top professional teacher of the year is a Romblomanon.

Dr. Dinah F. Mindo, Regional Director of the Department of Education (DepEd) Region III (Central Luzon) was honored by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as one of the country's world-class professionals for 2003 during the commission's 30th anniversary program.

Mindo was cited by the commission as this year's Professional Teacher awardee for her achievements as a teacher, educator, and education executive. She was recommended for the award by the National Organization of Professional Teachers, Inc. (NOPTI).

There were 34 other top professionals in different academic disciplines covered by professional examinations given by the commission.

The awarding ceremony was held June 20 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Dr. Mindo was Assistant Regional Director of DepEd-NCR before her promotion and transfer to Region III. She also served as Division Superintendent of Schools (DSS) in Romblon and Laguna. Rinzi Fadrilan

Ex-Congressman Beltran Dies

Romblon Ex-Congressman Natalio M. Beltran, Jr. is dead.

The former Romblon solon died June 18 in Manila. He was 66.

Jun Beltran was Commisioner of the National Amnesty Commission at the time of his death.

He served as Congressman of the lone district of Romblon from 1987-1992. In 1984, he was elected Assemblyman of Romblon, a position which he served until 1986.

After the People Power Revolution in 1986, Beltran was appointed undersecretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways,

As civic leader, Jun Beltran was elected Governor of Lions International District 301-A in 1979-80. He was also JCI Senator in Jaycees International. Rinzi Fadrilan


Romblon Journalist Wins Anew National Press Club Seat

Writer and editor Dennis F. Fetalino of Banton and Odiongan towns was re-elected Director of the National Press Club (NPC) of the Philippines during the club election early this month.

Fetalino, an incumbent NPC Director, is associate editor of People's Journal, the Philippines number one daily tabloid. With him at the Journal are two other Romblomanon writers, Julius F. Fortuna and Manuel F. Martinez, both from Odiongan. Fortuna and Martinez are regular columnists of the Journal tabloid.

Fetalino and Martinez were both former editors-in-chief of The Dawn, weekly student newspaper of the University of the East. It was at one time, the largest student publication in Asia. Rinzi Fadrilan
