New Bishop-Elect for Romblon Diocese

His Holiness Pope John Paul II appointed early this month Monsignor Jose Corazon Talaoc of Kalibo (Aklan) as the new ordinary bishop of the Diocese of Romblon.

The appointment of Talaoc to the rank of bishop was a promotion from his present position as monsignor.

Prior to his appointment, Mosignor Talaoc was Director of the Diocesan Commission on Biblical Apostolate in Kalibo. He was also co-pastor and helper at the New Washington parish.

The position of bishop in the Diocese of Romblon was left vacant last year with the appointment and transfer of Bishop Arturo M. Bastes to the Diocese of Sorsogon.

Monsignor Talaoc upon installation will be the fourth bishop of the diocese. The three former bishops of the diocese are Nicolas Mondejar, Vicente Salgado, and Arturo Bastes.

The Diocese of Romblon was created on December 19, 1974. /Rinzi Fadrilan

Bishop Famadico Appointed to New Diocese

Bishop Buenaventura "Ben" Famadico, D. D., auxilliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Lipa, has been appointed by Pope John Paul II as the ordinary bishop of Gumaca.

The appointment was officially published in the Vatican on June 11, 2003.

Bishop Famadico was installed as the third auxilliary bishop of Lipa in May 2002. He was also assigned pastor of the Parish of St. Martin of Tours in Taal, Batangas.

He was ordained to the episcopate in June 2002 by Most Reverened Antonio Franco, D.D., apostolic nuncio of the Philippines, in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro. His coat of arms bears the following inscription: Maghari Ka sa Amin, Filipino translation of the Latin "Aveniat Regnum Tuum".

Bishop Famadico is the second Romblomanon to be ordained Catholic bishop. The first prince of the Church from the marble province is Most Reverened Dinualdo D. Gutierrez, Bishop of Marbel (South Cotabato).

Famadico was ordained priest on October 25, 1983 and had since then served the apostolic vicariate of Calapan. His last post in the vicariate before his appointment as bishop was that of parish priest of the Santo Niño Cathedral Parish in Calapan City. Rinzi Fadrilan
