Romblon Church is National Cultural Treasure

The Cathedral of San Jose (and Sto. Nino de Romblon) in the Romblon capital town has been declared and recognized as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum (NM).

Twenty-five other colonial churches from different parts of the country were also accorded the same honor and distinction by NM.

Among the prominent churches included in the NM list are the San Agustin Church in Bacong, Negros Oriental; San Juan Bautista Church in Jimenez, Misamis Occidental; San Carlos Borromeo Church in Mahatao, Batanes; Our Lady of Assumption Church in Maragondon, Cavite; and Basilica of St. Michael in Tayabas, Quezon.

National Cultural Treasures are "unique objects found locally possessing outstanding historical, cultural, artistic and scientific value which are significant and important for the nation. Rinzi Fadrilan

Upon qualification, such treasures will be subject to preservation and protection under existing laws.
