Romblon leaders initiate reform dialogue

Concerned citizens of Romblon announced that there will be a convocation of Romblon province's civic, intellectual and economic leaders, to "jump-start" a province-wide consultation and discussion of economic and political issues that affect Romblon's development.

The convocation will be held today, Feb. 27 at 5:30 pm at Pangarap Building, 85 West Avenue cor. Baler St., Quezon City.

The convocation arose from the need to review the framework and revisit the institutions that are responsible for the "economic and political decline of Romblon in the last decades" - including the cultural and social history of the Romblomanons - that contributed to this decline.

Romblon is at the tail end of development in the Southern Tagalog and in the country. Leaders and citizens of the province examine why this is so.

The convocation will initiate serious discussion among Romblomanons prior to launching province-wide consultations that will focus on economic and political reforms, which it is believed needs as it enters the threshold of the 21st century. The province-wide consultations will begin next month.

Romblon has become the country's fifth poorest province today based on the latest survey done by the National Statistical Cooperation Board (NCSB) Provincial Level Poverty Statistics.

The convocation will present an opportunity for the people of Romblon to forge a fresh vision that will invigorate and encourage them to participate fully and actively in Romblon's over-all socio-economic and political development.
