Romblon tech courses registration

This is good news to students taking up technical-vocational courses in Romblon schools and training institutions.

The courses you are taking now are registered under the unified training program registration system of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority ( TESDA).

TESDA Romblon reported that as of February 2003, the training programs of four institutions in the province are now registered with the training authority.

The training institutions with registered programs are Educational System Technological Institute, Fast Institute of Electronics and Communications, Romblon College, all in Odiongan town and the TESDA administered Alcantara School of Arts and Trades.
Registered programs include electronics technology, electrical technology, civil technology, information technology, marine transportation, seaman course, garments technology, and computer programming.

TESDA registration and accreditation of training programs is a seal of quality training and compliance with national training regulations and standards.

Mayor Mayor supports Pinoy fisherfolk

Mayor Pacifico Ll. Mayor of Ferrol in his capacity as secretary general of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) has extended support to the country's six million marginal fisherfolk in their fight for delineation of municipal waters.

Earlier, the Kilusang Mangingisda, umbrella organization of fisherfolk associations from 920 coastal cities and towns, assailed the decision of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Elizea Gozun for recalling the implementation of the guidelines in the delineation of municipal waters.

Guzun's decision, according to the fisherfolk leaders, betrayed the interests of the marginal fishermen in favor of commercial fishers.

Mayor Mayor reported that 60 percent of the country's municipal waters has already been defined, providing for a 15-kilometer coverage from the shoreline including offshore islands.

"The DENR decision," says Mayor, "is both anti-poor and anti-local autonomy."
