Sibale Tree Planting Project Eyed for Funding

A budget proposal for the Sibale Tree Planting project has been received by the RDL-CLEAR. Called "Adopt a Tree Program", it is expected to start May 2004 and will cover the Amantaw watershed, ideally chosen for its proximity to a water reservoir. According to Prospero Fabregas who submitted the proposal, their strategy to assure survival of trees is the active involvement of the participants throughout the entire growth of trees until it reaches maturity. Dead trees will also be replaced.

The project cost is initially placed at 25,000 Philippine pesos. This will cover expenses like seedlings, salaries for workers, etc. Aside from Fabregas, other key people of the project will be team leader Owen Abainza and Project Coordinator Bien Ferranco.

Sibale or the municipality of Concepcion or Maestre de Campo Island is one of the smaller islets that dot North-Western Romblon. It has a rugged beauty that can only be enhanced by ensuring its tropical forests remain.

The project awaits final approval by RDL-CLEAR Board of Directors.
