BANTON 2003 PROJECT FORMALLY LAUNCHED

Manila, Philippines. Banton 2003, a project geared towards the development of Banton's eco-cultural tourism industry, was formally launched on October 5, 2002 at the Kalayaan Lounge of the Export Bank Plaza. Leading the launching of the endeavor was Lyndon F. Fadri, project chairman, and Hon. Jory F. Faderanga, Banton's municipal mayor.

Fadri presented the objectives, the general framework, the major strategies and the feasibility of the project. Mayor Faderanga on the other hand gave an inspirational message and presented the planned activities of the Balik Pamilyang Bantoanon.

Group heads presented their action plans for 2003. Joemel

Ferrancol, head of the Site Development and Environmental Concerns Group focused on the tourism sites which were previously identified and its plan to launch a site developmentcontest to fast track the development. Finance Group Head Chris Fiecas presented the fund-raising activities that will be undertaken as follows: issuance of the Banton 2003 discount card, solicitation of advertisement in the souvenir programs and brochures, the Yuletide Basketball Tournament and Raffle, holding of a Christmas Ball and the Search for the Miss Banton Tourism 2003. Dante Fadriquela, head of the Information and Marketing Group, presented strategic actions to maximize exposure through the Internet, print, radio, TV and other alternative channels. Jaime Faigao of the Administration Group briefly discussed how to maximize its services to its internal customers - the other groups and committees.

In the absence of the Events Coordination Committee chairman, Fadri presented the tentative calendar of activities covering the months of April and May, 2003, the major ones being the Balik Pamilyang Bantoanon on April 19-20 featuring the Sanrokan Festival, the Mayflower Festival during the whole month of May which will feature Turnohan by barangay, flower parade and the Search for Ms. Banton Tourism 2003, the cultural activities to be sponsored by the RDL-CLEAR in the second half of May and the Balik-Banton International Edition in the last week of the same month. Mayor Faderanga added that Congressman Eleandro Madrona promised to bring to Banton the local government officials of the different municipalities in Romblon.

This was attended by volunteers and representatives of class organizations and other Bantoanon organizations, namely BHS class 87, 90, 94, 96, 97, 00 and 01; Biniray 2003; and Silak it Bantoanon, Inc. While the attendance was less than expected, members of the Executive Committee hope it will finally cause the project to gain momentum.
