Earthquake hits Romblon


An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude and tectonic origin hit Romblon 11:20PM Monday, September 1. A mild aftershock followed after ten minutes.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in its earthquake info bulletin recorded the location of the quake at 12.2N, 122.1E and 815W of Romblon.

Phivolcs traced the origin of the quake to the Tablas Fault.

The same eathquake was also felt in Boracay Island and Odiongan (Intensity 4), Lezo, Aklan (Intensity 3) and Marinduque (Intensity 2).

The provincial government, according to Vice-Governor Jose Fonte, has not received any report of damages to life and property as a result of the earthquake.
